Holy Cow!

Posted by Fairy Yarnmother on March 10, 2010

I’m getting lots of hits on my blog this morning!  Susan B. Anderson spoke at the Milwaukee Knitting meeting last night and was looking at some of my sock blanks after the meeting.  She said she was going to put my links in her webpage for people to look at.  SO now I’ve got to put in some photos in so people can see what she was looking at  :)

Thank you Susan!

I think this is the yarn that caught Susan’s eye.   I’ve been trying to knit accessories for my home in the arts and crafts style, so this rose pattern was on my mind.

I’m vending at the Madison Knit-in on March 13th and wanted to dye some flowered blanks for spring.  Cute, eh?  I’ve had lots of fun trying to paint them.  I brought a few of them to the Janesville Knit-in in February and a lovely woman snapped them all up…. so I had to make more.

forgive the camera cord!

New Pictures

Posted by Fairy Yarnmother on July 19, 2009

I haven’t blogged for a while, but I’ve been knitting and dyeing up a storm trying to get some inventory together for the sheep and wool festival in Sept. The big news is that I just got back from doing a trunk show at Artisian Knitworks in Grosse Pointe Michigan. It went very well and I’m glad of the experiance. Thank you to all the people that showed up and brought our yarns. The next big news is that I’ve also been cataloging items for our new website, http://www.fairyyarnmother.com, so Riin and I can put it on-line this week. Can’t wait, it’s been some hard work; it’s very close to being ready. Well, enough of that dribble, Here’s some eye candy for you!

DIY electric yarn winder

Posted by Fairy Yarnmother on May 8, 2009

Wahooo!  I just bought 2 sewing machine motors on Ebay to make a yarn winder for $30 each.  They both come with the pedals.  I’m “hoping” (ie praying like mad) that each one can be used to make a winder.  It all depends on if I can get 2 belts to run off of each motor.  it should be powerful enough for that.  Sewing machines have strong motors.  If it works out that we can fit 2 belts with each one, then it would use one pedal to control the speed.  It’s easy enough to wind the yarn from a blank into two cones, but it’s hard to do fast and it’s hard to do by yourself.  My PH/DH (patient and dear) usually has to hold the blank for me because it sticks a bit at the end of a row.  It would be nice to have an electric winder.  :)

Here’s some soap I made for Mother’s Day.

I’m so excited!  The Fairy Yarn Mother web site is here. But I’m getting ahead of myself, I should tell you what it is first. It’s just the best damn on-line, web site on the internet for hand dyed yarns and fiber! Yup, that’s what it is, and you’re gonna love it! It came about because my good friend Riin and I re-connected after several years and discovered that we were both doing the same thing, we had started businesses selling our hand dyed yarns. Riin and I meet in 1992 when I worked in Ann Arbor, we knit together every week for years and years. Anyone that’s ever been in a knitting group knows how well you get the know people when you knit in a circle. 8 years ago my job took me home to Wisconsin, we lost touch for a while but fortunately reconnected last year. Early this year we decided to combine forces to creat Fairy Yarn Mother!  The above photo shows a mix of the yarns and fiber for sale on the new site, http://www.fairyyarnmother.com, check back to see our progress on it.  Thank you for looking.
