A knitting machine from scratch

Posted by Fairy Yarnmother on April 23, 2011

This is great.  Look at the videos from correx37.  She’s made her own knitting machine from printer parts and an ancient computer.

here’s her first video on a knitting gadget, she set up latch hooks in a row and found a way to knit by using the latch hooks.

here’s the 2nd video, where she’s automated her gadget.

the 3rd video.  Now she’s got the printer motor moving the needles forward and back the way a knitting machine would.

and here’s her final machine.  it’s completely automatic and will go until it runs out of yarn.  She named it MK2.  You can see the progress she’s made in her designs.   I’m sure her next machine innovation will have it make coffee.  :)

Chicago One of a Kind show

Posted by Fairy Yarnmother on December 12, 2010

My friend, Cristel, and I went to the OOAK show at Merchandise Mart last week.  It was big and loud and crowded!  but if you’ve never gone, you’ve missed something exciting.  There were more than 600 venders, here’s the link for it:  http://www.oneofakindshowchicago.com.   There was lots of designers there and everything was spectacular.  I was thinking it would be a good show to vend there, but the price tag is heavy so I wanted to look at it first.   I had the perfect opportunity because a friend of a friend was a vendor there this year.   Here’s her website: http://www.etsy.com/shop/jill2day/?ref=storque.  Her name is Jill and she makes really unique  garments out of recycled sweaters.  Very clever about how she constructs them, I like all the angles and colorful each piece is.
