Taxes and photos

Posted by Fairy Yarnmother on April 19, 2011

Happy Tax day to all!  I’m darned glad the 18th is over.  Slept pretty good last night.  I took an extension on taxes, I could have finished them before the deadline, but I’ve got so many things going on that it would have been hard to finish them all before May.    taxes were a bit complex this year, I did out-of-state shows and wasn’t quite sure how to separate that income from my state taxes, the forms look blurry after a while…..  So, now I’m free to finish up items for Gloria Hardiman’s gallery, which is due in May!  I’ve got so many ideas that I can’t wait to finish up on them.  :)

Here’s some of the photos that I’ve neglected  to post, they’re from the last few fiber shows I did, the Madison Knit-in and the Wisconsin Spin-in:  Oops, I couldn’t find any from the spin-in, but included some shots of Wanda’s and Sonja’s knits made from a couple of yarn blanks that they bought at the last Knit-in.  Wanda made mittens from a flowered blank and Sonja made a shawl from a striped blank.  They were kind enough to show me at the different shows.

Spring 2011 Knitting Events

Posted by Fairy Yarnmother on February 9, 2011

Be sure to check out the following knitting events in Wisconsin ( I’m vending as Fairy Yarnmother at all of them)  (be sure to stop by and say hello.)  :

The Janesville Knit-it is on Feb. 18th and 19th in Milton, WI.  Here’s the website, http://jakg.org/id18.html to register.  It’s put on by the Janesville area knitting guild and has lots of fun things to keep you busy.   There’s a huge room downstairs where you can sit, knit and people watch all day.   Punxsutawney Phil (hopefully that’s the spelling) didn’t see his shadow on groundhog’s day;  that means that winter is officially ended and we can all start enjoying being out again.  This is the first show of the year and it’s so much fun to see what people have been working on during the cold weather.  You’ll like the facilities too, very sunny and uplifting!

Sheep in the City is the next week after the Knit-in, Feb 25th-27th in Oak Creek, WI.  Here’s their website, http://web.mac.com/jmassie1/Sheep_in_the_City/Welcome.html.  Jan Massie has put together another great show this year, so don’t miss it.  Jan has lots of photos to look at so you can get the gist of what that show is like.  It’s a relaxed atmosphere where you can shop, spin, knit, make friends and most of all have fun.

Madison Knit-in is on Mar. 19th in Madison, WI.  That show is put on by the Madison Knitting Guild and here’s their website, http://www.madisonknittersguild.org/knitin.html.  This is my 2nd year vending at the event; before that I took classes at the knit-in so I’m familiar with both ends of the show.  It’s a well orchestrated event; they get some really big names to come out to speak, like Lily Chin and Jean Moss.  The Madison guild has 400+ members so they have lots of volunteers to make it great.  You’ll like being around that many people, they’re friendly and helpful and yet they’ll treat you like  family.

Wisconsin Spin-in is on Apr. 7th-9th in Pewaukee, WI.  http://www.wispinin.org/ is their website.  This show is put on by the Friendly, Feisty Fiber Guild.  Luci Williams has done a great job organizing the event; they’ve got some interesting classes scheduled and lots of great vendors!  There’ll even be live music there to spin by (one year it was hammered dulcimers).  I’m sure everyone will find something to enjoy at this show.   This is the first year that the event has been scheduled in the spring and we’ve (by we I mean southeast Wi) been lucky to have the event in our area for a couple of years now.

Getting ready for my next show

Posted by Fairy Yarnmother on August 3, 2010

Can’t believe it’s August already!  The time is going so fast.  I had a lot of fun at the Midwest Felting Symposium and the Midwest Fiber & Folk Art, but now it’s time to move on to my next show; the Oconomowoc Festival of the Arts.

Here’s the link for it:  http://www.oconomowocarts.org/   Aug ust 21st and 22nd.  Check it out.  It’s going to be a blast.   It’s right in Fowler Park, northeast of downtown Oconomowoc.  There’s parking in the municple lots and the city will bus you up to the park.  It’s a beautiful park and the lake will keep the show cool.  I’m booth #15, in the large tent near the entrance.  Stop by and say hello!

I’ll add some photos if I can get organized enough to do it!

I’m so excited!  The Fairy Yarn Mother web site is here. But I’m getting ahead of myself, I should tell you what it is first. It’s just the best damn on-line, web site on the internet for hand dyed yarns and fiber! Yup, that’s what it is, and you’re gonna love it! It came about because my good friend Riin and I re-connected after several years and discovered that we were both doing the same thing, we had started businesses selling our hand dyed yarns. Riin and I meet in 1992 when I worked in Ann Arbor, we knit together every week for years and years. Anyone that’s ever been in a knitting group knows how well you get the know people when you knit in a circle. 8 years ago my job took me home to Wisconsin, we lost touch for a while but fortunately reconnected last year. Early this year we decided to combine forces to creat Fairy Yarn Mother!  The above photo shows a mix of the yarns and fiber for sale on the new site, http://www.fairyyarnmother.com, check back to see our progress on it.  Thank you for looking.
