Summer 2011 Knitting Events

Posted by Fairy Yarnmother on June 7, 2011

Be sure to check out the following knitting events in the Midwest( I’m vending as Fairy Yarnmother at all of them)  (be sure to stop by and say hello.)  :

the Midwest CSM Crank-in will be in Danville, IL July 22-24.  This event is for circular sock knitting machines.  there will be CSM classes, mini workshops and plenty of people there to help if you have a needy machines.

The Knit and Crochet Show is in Minneapolis, MN from July 28-31.  Here’s the website:  http://www.knitandcrochetshow.com/.  This is the first BIG (HUGE) knitting event of the year in the Midwest.  This is organized by the Knitting (and the Crochet) Guilds of America.  The run the master knitting programs and CAST ON magazine.  It’s held at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Minneapolis and features lots of big name instructors.  Everyone will be there so try to make if you can.  They devote July 27th to all of the Master Knitters program, if you’re having a problem with any of the samples be sure and check out the classes.

Stitches Midwest is held in Schaumburg, IL  on Aug 24-28.  Their website is:  http://www.knittinguniverse.com/stitches/.  This is the other BIG knitting event in the Midwest.  I don’t know how many people they get for the show turnout, but they get over a million visitors to their website.  Stitches is run by Knitter’s Magazine and the XRX Books people.  There are 4 Stitches shows (IL, CT, CA and GA) running throughout the year, and we’re lucky enough to get one of them in the midwest.   The classes are excellent, my favorite teachers are Judy Pascale, Lily Chin  and Leslye Solomon.

Spring 2011 Knitting Events

Posted by Fairy Yarnmother on February 9, 2011

Be sure to check out the following knitting events in Wisconsin ( I’m vending as Fairy Yarnmother at all of them)  (be sure to stop by and say hello.)  :

The Janesville Knit-it is on Feb. 18th and 19th in Milton, WI.  Here’s the website, http://jakg.org/id18.html to register.  It’s put on by the Janesville area knitting guild and has lots of fun things to keep you busy.   There’s a huge room downstairs where you can sit, knit and people watch all day.   Punxsutawney Phil (hopefully that’s the spelling) didn’t see his shadow on groundhog’s day;  that means that winter is officially ended and we can all start enjoying being out again.  This is the first show of the year and it’s so much fun to see what people have been working on during the cold weather.  You’ll like the facilities too, very sunny and uplifting!

Sheep in the City is the next week after the Knit-in, Feb 25th-27th in Oak Creek, WI.  Here’s their website, http://web.mac.com/jmassie1/Sheep_in_the_City/Welcome.html.  Jan Massie has put together another great show this year, so don’t miss it.  Jan has lots of photos to look at so you can get the gist of what that show is like.  It’s a relaxed atmosphere where you can shop, spin, knit, make friends and most of all have fun.

Madison Knit-in is on Mar. 19th in Madison, WI.  That show is put on by the Madison Knitting Guild and here’s their website, http://www.madisonknittersguild.org/knitin.html.  This is my 2nd year vending at the event; before that I took classes at the knit-in so I’m familiar with both ends of the show.  It’s a well orchestrated event; they get some really big names to come out to speak, like Lily Chin and Jean Moss.  The Madison guild has 400+ members so they have lots of volunteers to make it great.  You’ll like being around that many people, they’re friendly and helpful and yet they’ll treat you like  family.

Wisconsin Spin-in is on Apr. 7th-9th in Pewaukee, WI.  http://www.wispinin.org/ is their website.  This show is put on by the Friendly, Feisty Fiber Guild.  Luci Williams has done a great job organizing the event; they’ve got some interesting classes scheduled and lots of great vendors!  There’ll even be live music there to spin by (one year it was hammered dulcimers).  I’m sure everyone will find something to enjoy at this show.   This is the first year that the event has been scheduled in the spring and we’ve (by we I mean southeast Wi) been lucky to have the event in our area for a couple of years now.

Chicago One of a Kind show

Posted by Fairy Yarnmother on December 12, 2010

My friend, Cristel, and I went to the OOAK show at Merchandise Mart last week.  It was big and loud and crowded!  but if you’ve never gone, you’ve missed something exciting.  There were more than 600 venders, here’s the link for it:  http://www.oneofakindshowchicago.com.   There was lots of designers there and everything was spectacular.  I was thinking it would be a good show to vend there, but the price tag is heavy so I wanted to look at it first.   I had the perfect opportunity because a friend of a friend was a vendor there this year.   Here’s her website: http://www.etsy.com/shop/jill2day/?ref=storque.  Her name is Jill and she makes really unique  garments out of recycled sweaters.  Very clever about how she constructs them, I like all the angles and colorful each piece is.
