Not so Disappointed with Ebay anymore

2 months later——January 9th
Never heard from this seller again. She quietly pulled her auction out of Ebay without my knowing it. I’m sure she has no intention of fixing her motor or of contacting me again. So I got on with my business, I found another motor and bought it instead. It’ll come any day now. Life’s too short to deal with frustrating situations and I’ve got stuff to knit.

nine days later—–Nov 5th (my birthday)

The seller contacted me and told me that she would fix the part and then if I still wanted it she would send it out.  I’m so relieved.  Maybe she doesn’t answer her email every week or maybe my letter to Ebay made her rethink the situation.  Whatever it was, I’m grateful that she’s resolving it now.  :)

five days later….. Nov 1st

I had called Harold from the Knit Knack Shop in Peru, IN about the motor part damage.  He’s been keeping these knitting machines together for ages,  I had sent him the photo of the broken part.  He checked with Brother International (the manufacturer) and found out that they have a few of these parts left and it was just  $10 + shipping, He also said the part was critical to the working of the motor belt.   Good job Harold!  What service!  So,  I forwarded Harold’s email to the seller and asked her to take $20 off the total.  I thought that was fair.  She never even answered me.  She returned my money in paypal, but never contacted me about what she was doing.  The ebay listing is still there, it still says I’ve won it, but i have the feeling that she’ll never horor her sale.  Why?  Because I asked for $20 off for something I’d have to fix before I could use it?  (what cheek I have!)   Because she’s having seller’s remorse?  Why ask why.  I ended up  writting a letter to Ebay explaining the situation and asked what they will do about it.  Then I read her feedback write-ups in Ebay.  She’s got 2 negatives comments in there that said she had welched on 2 other auctions and then wouldn’t return any emails to discuss the matter further.  I’m surprised Ebay lets her keep a seller account with her track record.

four days later….Oct 31th.  I bought someting on Ebay four days ago but never heard from the seller after the auction.  Turns out the seller broke a plastic piece off the KE-100 motor drive  when she was packing it up to ship to me.  She didn’t even email me when she knew she had a problem, I had to contact her days later and ask if something was wrong.  I wouldn’t care about a insignificant problem, which hopefully this is…. but you can’t tell; you have to be careful.  these machines were made 20 years ago, which is a long life for any electronic thing.  You can’t buy parts for any of the machines any longer, so when something breaks down, you have to jury-rig it as best you can.  I sent the photo the seller took of the broken part to the husband of one of the dealers to see what he thinks needs to be done to it to make it workable again.   I don’t mind that part of it.  I’ve got several knitting machines and accessories that have failed over the years and I’ve done the same thing to keep them running.  Here’s the part that does get me.  I paid $500 for a motor that the seller described as being “in perfect working condition”.   She probally thought she’d get more for it, but people weren’t looking for one and that’s the chance you take putting an item up for an auction.  There were lots of things she could have done to get more money for it (like put a reserve on it, etc.) I asked her to fix it or take something off so I could have it fixed.  She said I would take it for the auction price or she’d relist it.  Essentully, she’s saying I got a deal on it and that’s that. 

I’ve asked her to wait until the dealer’s husband calls me with his estimate on how to fix it.  Hopefully he thinks it is a small problem with an easy fix.  She should have an interest in figuring that out also, in case she relists or uses it.  If it is, then I’ll ask her again to take the price of the repair off the price.  After all…….. she is the one who broke it.  Hopefully she’s thought about it a little clearer since last night.  I’ve only been in business a little while, but if someone wasn’t happy with somethin I had made, I’d work to make it right.  I like getting those little stars for 100% customer satisfaction.
